About Us
I’m Jason, the founder of Game Headz. My first model was a Space Marine from a blister and a box of Tyranids. I got them to keep my mind occupied and deal with the stress while waiting for my first son to be born. Since 11 years of age, I have always enjoyed building models. I guess at that special time in my life, the introduction of Games Workshops stuck with me and fell in love of the game. Not only that I can build these figs that I can even use them in a practical sense as opposed to a static display.
I’m a gamer. My other passion is video games for the PC. Not to say that I’d turn down a good game on the ole console. I play online an awful lot but the reason why is more for the social aspect. The same can be said for tabletop games. To me, nothing is more fun than a tournament hall filled with others with the same interest. I have made many friends and customers that way.
About two years ago, the notion of actually selling video and tabletop games came to be. So, my partner and I went looking to find a store location to setup shop. We had a great location nailed down for a lease, or so we thought. So sure of a store front that I bought a large amount of inventory from Games Workshop as an independent retailer. Well, the deal fell through so Game Headz was born as a mail order business ran through the corporate HQ for another business that we have.
I even tried to buy out the only major game store here in Birmingham, Alabama. When that didn’t work out, I had to regroup and configure Game Headz as a mail order business until a better position for brick and mortar presented itself. The next logical step was for a website. During the planning of this site, an opportunity presented itself, The Big Waaagh.
Games Workshop saw fit, to this day no one really knows why, to stop holding the Grand Tournaments in Atlanta, Georgia. This left a BIG vacuum in The South for a tabletop tourney for everyone to enjoy. Enter George Flowers and friends. George is a guy that got the ball rolling like some giant snowball on some poor hapless village (Memphis, TN) for a big tourney for us tabletop players. I got invited to be a vendor at the event, which gave us the idea about going totally mobile.
Instead of being just a mail order business we are a mobile store. Every so often we’ll run around setting up shop from one event or another. We’ll even show up at a garage event. Hell, I’ve even built tables for a friend’s garage for that purpose. This takes a lot of effort to do but worth it.
Today, Game Headz has a small staff of three. Our retail and management experience has done well so far. We have a new trailer for going to event and hauling our stuff, a brick n mortar opportunity is in site, we already have a decent customer base, and now we have this website.
I really don’t know what to expect from this site’s business. My goal remains the same though, to bring players together in our gaming community and provide the best service and the best prices possible.
